Skeletal remains

Pound Street Cemetery

speaker
Sharon Clough

7.30 pm, Tuesday 27th April 2010 at St John's Parish Room

Many will not be aware that the road junction between Pound Street and Bartholomew Street / Newtown Road lies over a mediaeval cemetery.  Over the years a number of excavations have uncovered remains, most recently during the junction enhancements in 2004.

The contractors for the 2004 excavations, Oxford Archaeology, uncovered a large number of skeletons. Further study of the skeletons by tonight's speaker revealed much of interest.

The Speaker
Sharon Clough is an osteoarchaeologist working for Oxford Archaeology. Her area of expertise is a branch of archaeology that deals with the study and analysis of human and animal anatomy, especially skeletal remains in the context of archaeological deposits.
